Wombats are 66 Champs

The 1966 SFL Championship goes to the "Thunder from Down Under" Melbourne Wombats. Here's a wrap of the season as reported from Commissioner Zak. The Miracles won their conference with a 9-5 record and the Deadbeats finished 2nd at 8-6.

Miracles missed two short field goals in OT

The Old Old School and Jit Bags tied at 5-8-1. The Ambassadors had the best regular season record at 11-3 with the Wombats finishing 9-5. Headbangers 5-9 and Invalids 3-11.

In the playoffs the Wombats beat the Ambassadors 25-21 by scoring the winning TD with 8 seconds left.

The Miracles kept the Deadbeats down the whole game to win 20-10.

Championship

In the 1966 SFL final, the Miracles tie it 10-10 with 1:15 left forcing OT. In OT the Miracles have the ball three times and miss FGs from the 17 and 13 yard lines. The Wombats have the ball four times and on the last drive they finally punch it in to win, 16-10.
